Community Growth and Planning Projects

Thompson Falls Growth Policy

Long-term capital planning is a crucial job that municipalities undertake in order to keep a community safe, financially solvent, and viable.  As part of these efforts, the City of Thompson Falls regularly updates and maintains several planning documents which include the Capital Improvements Plan (CIP) and the City’s Growth Policy.

The CIP provides planning framework for all of the infrastructure and development within the City.  The document identifies existing problems, probable future demands, and recommends long term projects.  This document includes analysis of the water system, greenspace, roads, stormwater, and other infrastructure that the City manages.  The most recent CIP was completed at the end of last year and is available on the website.

In addition to the CIP, the City is looking to update their growth policy.  The growth policy is an important document that municipality’s use to review and develop policies like zoning, allowable housing density, and promote economic development in the community.  The City has applied for funding through the CDBG planning program recently, and they are waiting to receive funding awards.
